About me…

Sarita Official-2” Before the torch of life is extinguished
by the vicissitudes of time,
before the power of thoughts is crippled
and the pen drops from my hands,
O’my God! Give me courage and Strength
to record the history of my people,
their language, culture and traditions,
to be passed on in heritage
to our coming
generations”.
–  Dr. Sarita Mehta

“I am fortunate; my parents gave me a very meaningful name, Sarita. The Hindi meaning of ‘Sarita सरिता ‘ is ‘River’. It reminds me of the Holy Ganga, the Lifeline of Indian society and culture, which is full of vigor and vitality, and ever flowing, sometimes as a mountain torrent, while negotiating the great Himadri and cutting through the narrow gorges and ravines, and at others, moving smoothly and majestically with measured paces and pensive mood, in the likeness of a recluse, while passing through the plains. When I opened my eyes in the living world, my grandmother is said to have written the holy word’ Oum with honey on my tongue. It appears as if this divine symbol was not scribbled on tongue but in the inner depths of my heart with the sweetness and purity of honey, and with the same intensity of love and reverence for life and its Creator. Thus all the cultural values and noble traditions that I received in biological, social and national heritage compromise my invaluable treasure. And, as a teacher, academician, writer, poet, and artist, I am ever eager to pass it on to the new generation.”
